Oliver Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, February 2016

When I design a new amigurumi, I spend time thinking about all the features. I study the dimension and the detail of the various parts, I search on the web to make sure my new character is not similar to others. Finally I make a sketch that becomes the pattern for me to follow. Oliver did not go through this process, or better to say, I was trying to make something else and he turned out instead. He is a mistake, however the most welcome one as he is the cutest thing I have ever created. Is he not adorable… I wish I had the age to play with him!

The pattern was featured in Simply Crochet Magazine, Issue 45 - May 2016

Joe Kitty The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, November 2016

I’m so happy today, I have just finished rewriting the pattern of Joe Kitty The Ami.
I have designed him a few years ago and … yes, I’m still in love with this cute kitty. What do you all think, is he not adorable in his blue baby grow?

FINISHED toy: exceptionally you can buy it on ETSY at this link

Schoolboy Bear the Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, November 2016

This little bear was designed at the beginning of my adventure in the Amigurumi World. I still like him and this year I have taken the time to re-write the pattern and put it in the current format of my recent works. I have made a few changes to the original pattern but overall I have not changed the original character.

Stick The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, October 2016

One day I gave freedom to my fantasy and drew some sketches that were meant to be monsters. Bubble, the first pattern I made, turned out to be a sweet weird thing. Stick, who is Bubble’s fiancĂ© in my Amiland, is an adorable clumsy puffy thing. They are monsters but the most lovely ones you can think of, do not you agree with me?
Stick and Bubble were entered in the design contest with the theme “Monsters” on amigurumipatterns.net in October 2016.

Dora Duck The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, September 2016

Dora is my second attempt at a duck, the first one has been a disaster and only now I have found the guts to give it another go.
My idea was to get head and body crocheted as one piece. It has taken me several attempts before getting to what I had in mind. I measured, counted, experimented shapes and ripped off so many times … but it was all worth for. I’m quite happy with the outcome, is she not cool with her hat on?

WIP: Dora Duck The Ami

I’m working on a duck, she is called Dora. The pattern is almost complete, some tweaks here and there and off it will be for testing.
My model has been this little cute thing… I hope you will like my new character, all I can tell is that she has got personality :)

Happy 3rd Birthday Mary's Amiland

Time flies and Mary's Amiland celebrates its 3rd birthday!
This year I have let my creativeness to be free and ventures where it wanted to. I have designed so many unexpected characters that I was taken aback myself not knowing where they came from.
I feel gifted to be able to create my own amigurumis, such an enjoyable art.
I hope you are having fun at following my journey in this fantastic world!

Tommy Snake The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, July 2016

Tommy Snake The Ami

Reptiles are not exactly my favourite animals. Many are fascinated by that species, as for myself I’m scared of them. Nevertheless I thought it was a shame that my Amiland did not have a representative from this world, that’s why I decided to design a snake with such a personality I could not help loving it.
Tommy turned out to be an elegant snake with his little bow tie, the one that wins your heart straight away and makes you feel at ease … even with a snake around, do not you agree?

Bubble The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, July 2016

I always say that I’m back to childhood thanks to amigurumi. Bubble is born from a sketch of mine where I gave freedom to my fantasy. She was supposed to be a monster but she turned out to be a sweet weird thing instead. She has also a fiancĂ© that I will make one of these days…

Bubble has given me the opportunity to experiment a bit, I crocheted the body and the legs as one piece using a different technique than my usual way. I tried puffy eyes and spent countless hours on her tiny mouth. I made the thumbs as I crocheted the hands, I discovered that it is much fun than attaching them later. At the end I thought something was missing so I added a pair of curls on the top of her head.
For a small project so many things to try, don’t you think? I love my weird thing!

Little Cat The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, July 2016

This little cat was born right at the beginning of my adventure in the Amigurumi World as a designer. I refreshed his pattern adding some small variations to the original version.
I re-wrote the instruction according the current format of my patterns and included the learning gained over the last few years.

I really hope you would like the new Little Cat, do send me a photo if you happen to have time. I would love to seeing your work!

Miss Pig The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, July 2016

Miss Pig is one of my first characters that I have ever designed. I had fun at refreshing her pattern adding here and there some variations to the original version.

H-4WI Robot The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, July 2016

This is the first time that I have ventured into a non animal amigurumi. H-4WI character was thought to be a cheerful friend for our little ones. The beauty of creativeness is that everything is allowed, so robots do have personality in my fantastic world. H-4WI is a bit clumsy, but such a joyful thing, that I’m sure it will find a place in your heart.
His name comes from the sound of its letters when spelled out, H-4WI.  For some reason I thought it was a nice sound to listen to.

Matilda Cat The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, June 2016

I have had the idea to design a chubby cat on my mind for a long time, eventually I decided to give it a go. I meant to design a male cat, but Matilda came along instead and I could not force myself to change a thing. She is such a lovely sweet cat, the one you would never stop petting.

Freddy Puppy The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, June 2016

Freddy was an expected addition to my amigurumi family. I drew his sketch without a precise idea, next thing I know is that he was smiling at me with his funny “look”. I could not resist and make him straightaway.
It is perfect to finish off some yarn leftovers…. have fun at trying different colour combos.

Sean Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, May 2016

This bear is a dear character of mine which pattern has never been released until now. I have made several versions of him. Last year I made a football player, Nick, and sent it to Resobox 2015 World Amigurumi Exhibition in New York. He has not come back home after the exhibition as he found a new home there.
This year I have found the time to write the pattern and create Sean, Nick’s brother. I’m tempted to make a female version, but that will be another story …

Caesar Baby Penguin

by Mary’s Amiland, February 2016

One day I saw a beautiful photo of a baby emperor penguin cuddling up under the warm body of his father. I got inspired and wanted to design a character with that same tender look. I’m very pleased with the way he turned out, you want to cuddle him as soon as you direct your glance on him, don’t you?

I started calling my baby penguin Caesar almost immediately, and I believe I have been influenced by the name of his specie, emperor. At the end I did not change the name. I think Caesar is perfect on him, such an important name that makes him stand out in the group.

Saint Valentine's Heart

by Mary’s Amiland, January 2016

I made a little heart so I could add it to any of my amigurumi and make the perfect gift for Saint Valentine’s Day.
It can be used also for bags or key chains, I’m sure you will find a way to use it!

RESOBOX's World Amigurumi Exhibit vol. 2: Crocheted Culture Celebration!

The exhibition goes from Dec 11, 2015 to Feb 28, 2016 in New York, and during this time ROSEBOX has organised various events to help make known amigurumi around the world!

- opening party held on 11th December 2015.
If you missed that event check out the video to see how the night went! It was definitely a bustling night and ROSEBOX gallery was filled with ‪amigurumi‬ and people alike.
I could not join the party, however thanks to the video I felt as if I were there. I could even see some of my pieces!

- every day a themed amigurumi is posted on Facebook so we can learn a bit more about the various countries that have been featured in the exhibition.
At this link you can find Italy that I have had the honour to represent with Nick Bear.

- next event is scheduled at Vogue Knitting Live! this weekend (January 15-16, 2015) where you can visit RESOBOX booth on the 6th floor. They will be showcasing ‪amigurumi‬ pieces from the World Amigurumi Exhibition as well as presenting a lecture on Sunday at 2:30 PM on "The current trend of Amigurumi in Japan."

Tino Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, December 2015

Tino Bear has been on my to do list for almost a year. It was worth waiting until now as when I started designing him all was ready and his character came into life smoothly.
He is a “Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff" (from Winnie The Pooh’s song), don’t you think?
